Two websites can look similar on the first screen while costing completely different amounts. One provider quotes €500, another €5,000, and both call the work “building a website”.
A website’s price rarely depends only on the number of pages. It depends on the structure, the copy, technical responsibility, testing, and what happens after launch. A cheap site can be a perfectly reasonable option to start with, but it needs to be honestly described as a simple starter site, not as a complete working tool for the business.

What hides behind a similar price
A proper quote explains not just the price, but what the work actually includes: page structure, a mobile version, working contact forms, basic SEO, legal pages, a backup before and after launch, and support once the site is live.
The main mistake is comparing quotes on a single final figure. That makes it easy to miss what is left unsaid: who buys the domain and hosting, no information about backups, no clarity on whether copywriting is included, no form testing, or no stated support period.
Where the risk lies
The risk starts wherever a provider promises a “turnkey website” without explaining what that key actually opens: the site only works on the surface, enquiries do not come through, everything breaks after an update, and a year later the site needs rebuilding. Cheap work ends up expensive precisely because of fixes like these.
What you can do yourself
- write down what each quote actually includes
- ask whether the site will genuinely be yours, with access to the domain and hosting
- clarify who is responsible for updates and ongoing support
- ask about backups before and after launch
- compare not the price, but the actual scope of responsibility on offer
When it is better to delegate
If all you want is an attractive business card to start with, a small budget can be entirely reasonable. But if the site needs to take enquiries, run alongside advertising, and not break with every update, it is better to choose not the lowest price, but clearly defined responsibility.
To understand where the price difference comes from, you can look at our pricing and what is included in website maintenance after launch.
If you would rather focus on running your business than work out what a nice-sounding quote is actually hiding, Zen Webmaster can take the technical side off your hands and explain upfront exactly what the price and the responsibility behind it consist of.
